تتناول هذه الدراسة دور المنظمات الدولية والآليات التنفيذية في حماية التنوع البيولوجي، مع التركيز على الاتحاد الدولي لحفظ الطبيعة (IUCN) بوصفه أحد أهم الفاعلين في بناء المعايير البيئية الدولية. وتهدف الدراسة إلى بيان الكيفية التي أسهم بها الاتحاد في تطوير أنظمة التصنيف والمعايير الخاصة بالأنواع المهددة والمناطق المحمية والنظم الإيكولوجية، بالإضافة إلى توضيح دور هذه المعايير في دعم تنفيذ الالتزامات الدولية. كما تسعى الدراسة إلى تحليل آليات المتابعة والتقييم في النظام البيئي الدولي، خاصة مؤتمرات الأطراف والتقارير الوطنية الدورية، وبيان مدى فعاليتها في قياس التقدم نحو الأهداف العالمية للتنوع البيولوجي في ضوء إطار كونمينغ–مونتريال. واعتمدت الدراسة على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي من خلال فحص الوثائق الدولية والتقارير الرسمية والأدلة الفنية. وخلصت الدراسة إلى أن الاتحاد يمارس دورًا معياريًا محوريًا في الحوكمة البيئية الدولية.
