Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relative contribution of gratitude in predicting marital adjustment among married men and women, in light of gender, age, and duration of marriage. The study adopted the predictive descriptive approach, as it was appropriate for the nature of the research objectives. The study sample consisted of 363 male and female participants. Data were collected using the Gratitude in Marital Relationship Scale developed by Al-Sayed and Al-Zahrani (2023), and the Marital Adjustment Scale developed by Ammar (2015). The findings revealed that the level of gratitude among the study participants was high, and the overall level of marital adjustment was also high. The results further showed no statistically significant differences in gratitude attributed to gender, age, or duration of marriage. However, statistically significant differences were found in marital adjustment according to gender, in favor of males, while no significant differences were found according to age or duration of marriage. The findings also indicated that gratitude had a strong predictive ability in explaining marital adjustment, accounting for 57.1% of its variance. In light of these results, the study recommended promoting a culture of gratitude and mutual appreciation between spouses, and activating counseling programs that support marital adjustment and improve the quality of family relationships.
