The Reality of Sustainable Management in Government Schools in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman

This study aimed to explore the reality of sustainable management in public schools implementing the Green Schools Project in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman. The study employed a descriptive analytical approach to address the research questions. To collect data and information, an open-ended questionnaire was designed and applied to a purposive sample of 160 teachers, representing 21.4% of the original study population.
The results revealed strengths in sustainable management within the public schools implementing the Green Schools Project, including effective collaboration with parents and local municipalities, instilling environmental conservation values among students, and establishing sustainable projects within schools. However, weaknesses were identified, such as the lack of a clear vision for sustainable management, limited financial resources, and low student participation in environmental projects.
The study also uncovered challenges facing the implementation of sustainable management, including resistance to change from some school staff, inadequate financial support, and a lack of alignment between infrastructure and sustainability concepts. Conversely, the study highlighted opportunities available to enhance sustainable management, such as participation in green school programs, promoting student roles as environmental ambassadors, and utilizing underutilized spaces within schools.
In light of these findings, the study recommended the following: establishing a clear vision for sustainable management that includes specific goals to achieve sustainability in all aspects of school operations, expanding partnerships with local institutions to increase financial support and participation in environmental projects, and providing continuous training programs for teachers and students to enhance awareness and competencies in sustainability issues.
