Abstract

The research aims to show whether electronic banking services in Syria have followed a new pattern that has moved them from the traditional method to an innovative banking method that keeps pace with the developments of financial globalization, as the study was applied to the Syrian banking sector during the period from 2020 to 2024.

The research concluded that Syria has a hybrid banking system that combines traditional banking services with modern electronic payment applications, and some electronic services based on mobile phone applications. The analysis of the reality of banking services in Syria also showed weak digital maturity and the weak ability of banks to provide competitive electronic banking services, due to the weak availability of information technology dimensions in the banking sector in terms of the use of modern software, applications, databases and banking information systems that support banking innovation.

The study concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which are: Restructuring the banking sector towards technological services, especially including new electronic banking services that are more open to financial globalization such as virtual banks - digital insurance - digital investment, leading to preparing the infrastructure to adopt a cryptocurrency, capable of fulfilling the requirements of the entire digital payment and investment system.
